Welsh Government funding available…

Published: 26 February 2021

The Welsh Government has recently announced funding for residents and businesses affected by flooding since September 2020. For Monmouthshire, this is particularly relevant for those communities that were flooded around 23rd December 2020.

Monmouthshire County Council processes are now in place to administer this funding. James Woodcock has already made direct contact with those businesses known to have been flooded. Ross Price and colleagues in the Flood Management Team will be visiting households known to have been affected to make them aware of the funds and drop off a leaflet.

Residents

The funding for households is £500, or £1000 if they were uninsured. Funding is for situations where living accommodation within homes themselves was flooded (not garages, gardens or sheds etc). To apply for this funding, residents will need to complete a short application form available on the website at https://www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/flooding-support/ or call 01633 644644.

Businesses

Information on support for businesses affected by flooding can be found at https://businesswales.gov.wales/business-flood-relief-fund

Rates Reductions

Some people affected may be eligible for an exemption on their Council Tax or Business Rates, for example 6 month’s exemption if the property is substantially unfurnished and unoccupied or an exemption of up to 12 months if structural repairs are required. They are invited to contact the Revenues team on 01633 644630 or email counciltax@monmouthshire.gov.uk
