Beverly decided in August last year, that in the Spring of this year she would retire.  Bev joined the Community Council in 2009 and has worked with many different councillors during her time as Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer (RFO) - a role that varies from one day to the next.  On behalf of the Council, past and present, I thank her most sincerely for her years of service, and trust that she enjoys her retirement.

Mr Lewis (Bill) a former long serving Police Officer, joins us on the retirement of Beverly, as our Clerk and RFO.  He is local having lived here for 38 years, as is well known and liked in the Community.  We welcome him on board and look forward to working with him.

Cllr Carole Hopkins
Town Mayor

The Annual meeting on Thursday 12th May saw councillors from the Magor and Undy Community confirming key positions in the new Town Council which was formed following changes made to the Council’s area by the Boundary Commission for Wales and Monmouthshire County Council.

This is a new era for the Council, and at the Annual Meeting members appointed their first Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Previously, as a Community Council it would have appointed a Chair and Vice Chair.

Members nominated and elected Cllr Carole Hopkins as their first Mayor, with Cllr Frances Taylor elected as Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Hopkins, a resident of Magor for over 30 years, has been a Councillor for the Magor, and then Magor with Undy Community Councils for many years, having been Chair of the Community Council several times.

Cllr Hopkins said “I am deeply honoured that you have chosen me to be the first Mayor of Magor with Undy. I am, and always have been totally committed to the needs of the community, and will continue to work for the benefit of the community, ensuring I do the job of Mayor justice.’

Cllr Hopkins went on to thank the outgoing Chair Cllr John Crook for his sterling work, and wishing him all the best wishes in his new role of Monmouthshire County Councillor for the Magor East and Elms Ward.

Cllr Hopkins said “I trust that as a new Town Council, we will work together as a team to achieve the Council’s Mission Statement ‘To conserve and improve Magor with Undy as an attractive and sustainable place in which to live, visit and do business’.
