The fishermen fish with traditional hand held nets which they have made from local materials. They fish in the shadow of the Second Severn Crossing and can be watched on suitable tides from the safety of the Black Rock picnic site which gives panoramic views of the Severn Estuary. 1ST MAGOR SCOUTS 1st Magor Scout Group was founded in April 1972, and belong to the Monmouthshire District Scout Group. As the group has expanded throughout the years, they now have an established and successful Beaver Colony for boys and girls aged 6 – 8 years, which has a healthy waiting list, and is growing bigger every year. They also have two Cub packs for ages 8 – 10½ years, which has a strong waiting list. They also have a Scout Group for ages 10½ – 14 years and are also very lucky as they are one of the few in the Monmouthshire District to have an Explorer Unit which is attached to the group. They are the oldest of they young people aged 14 – 18 years. Their aim is to continue the success, and focus on Adult recruitment to maintain the numbers in future years. CELTIC WARRIOR EXPLORER SCOUTS Magor Scout Hut - Saturdays 6.30 - 8.30pm (we are normally out and about, this is just our base) Explorers are the fourth section of the Scouting movement. Right from the time of Baden-Powell, there have been arrangements for young people who wanted to continue after their time in the Scout Section, and in 1967, Venture Scouts were formed from the existing Senior Scout and Rover Scout Sections. During the late 1990s it was decided that, to meet the changing needs of young people, there should be two sections for the over-14s: Explorer Scouts for 14 to 18-year-olds, and the Scout Network for 18 to 25s. All welcome from ages 14 - 18 years Contact Dawn Sadler (Explorer Leader) on 07702 341 781 |
