Crime Reduction - Shed Alarm Launch in Partnership with Neighbourhood Policing Team
The Community Council have funded a project in partnership with the local Neighbourhood Policing Team. This will enable the Neighbourhood Policing Team to offer alarmed padlocks and PIR's to victims of crime in the Magor, Undy and Llandevenny areas at cost price. The alarmed padlocks and PIR's are suitable for sheds and garages. Magor with Undy Community Councillors recognise the need to support members of the Community and the local Neighbourhood Policing Team. Follow up support to victims of crime is essential. This project offers practical help – at a reasonable cost to the victim - and the Community Council is delighted to be able to help get this excellent project started by way of financial assistance.”

Undy Football Club Due To Move In To The Welsh League
Undy FC celebrated recently (May 2011) after securing a place in the Welsh League by winning 1-0 at home to Lliswerry. The club was invited last year to vie for a spot in the League, which would required them to not only win the league they were in, but to also meet standard requirements including an adequate-sized spectator stand. The Club set about working hard on a number of fundraising events and managed to raise enough money to have a new stand built just in time for them to win the title and clinch a spot in the Welsh League. The Club also received funding from the Severnside Area Committee towards the stand, which was really appreciated. The Club is currently looking for spsonsors.

Monmouthshire invites comments on Deposit Local Development Plan - 30th September 2011
Monmouthshire County Council is preparing a Local Development Plan (LDP) for the county (excluding that part contained in the Brecon Beacons National Park) and is currently inviting comments on the Deposit Plan.
The Deposit Plan sets out the strategy and policies which will shape the way in which the county develops over the ten year period to 2021. It allocates land for housing and employment purposes and indicates where these and other uses will be permitted and contains policies to protect the environment from inappropriate development.
Cabinet member Councillor Bob Greenland has championed the importance to Monmouthshire of having a statutory planning framework that will positively guide development and avoid the ad hoc chaos of ‘planning by appeal’ if no such framework exists.
When adopted, the LDP will constitute the development plan for Monmouthshire – replacing the existing Unitary Development Plan (UDP) – and will form the basis for decisions in the determination of planning applications and appeals. The LDP will therefore provide a measure of certainty about what kinds of development will be permitted and where during the plan period.
The Deposit LDP has been produced following extensive consultation and participation, and its publication presents an important opportunity to submit comments in support of or in objection to the policies and proposals contained in the Plan. Notification of the consultation has been sent to over 2,500 individuals and organisations. Formal advertisements have been placed in the local press and drop-in sessions will take place at the dates and venues listed in the table below, where council staff can explain the LDP and answer questions.
The Deposit LDP and supporting documents together with information on how to get involved and make comments can be viewed on the council’s web site at www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/planningpolicy, at County Hall, Cwmbran and at all council libraries and one stop shops. The consultation period will run from Friday 7th October to Friday 18th November 2011.
For further information please contact the Development Plans team:

Undy Rugby Academy provide 'Guard of Honour'
at Rodney Parade
Undy Rugby Academy visited Rodney Parade again to perform the Guard of Honour for Newport prior to a fixture with Camarthen Quins.
This time, Undy came with news that they have been given permission to form a junior team at Magor RFC. This is significant news for Magor who had practically disappeared off the radar, and were clinging on with only a veteran side playing - not good news for one of Monmouthshire's old traditional village clubs.
An age grade side means that hopefully there will be a future for the club as the youngsters move up the age groups to represent the club at senior level. Friends of Newport RFC are committed to supporting such a move.

The Trust funded a range of training kit for the academy including tackle shields and balance training aids to help the kids hone up their skills for the season ahead.

As is now traditional, the youngsters ran through a range of rugby skills with FoNR Coach Joe Crocker, ably assisted by Sam Waldron and Gareth Bowen. Following this they formed the Guard of Honour as the teams took to the park.
Nathan Williams-Corbin was the selected player from Undy Rugby Academy to receive the coveted Friends of Newport Rugby Award for the Ultimate Support Player of the Season. This award is not necessarily for the high point scorer or the most accomplished or natural player at the Academy, but for the player who gives the most support to his team mates and puts in more effort than his peers as a good club man would. Finding a role at which he could call his own, Nathan as hooker, secures lots of ball for the team. He received his award from Newport heroes Sam Waldron and Gareth Bowen before the match against Carmarthen Quinns at Rodney Parade.
Whilst his academy mates formed the Guard of Honour, Nathan was invited to be the match day mascot, an opportunity he chose to share with his best pal Ellis Bonner.
Nathan (left) and Ellis (right) met up with skipper Alex Jones before kick-off and then led out the Black and Ambers for a winning performance against the Carmarthen Quinns.
The academy welcomes the support of FoNR and in particular the way they seek to support the grass roots of the game. They put a lot of time and effort into mini rugby and provided a coaching session and contact with Newport players making the day for all of the academy players a very special one.
Undy Rugby Academy have also formed links with Magor RFC and are working with them to develop mini and junior rugby teams at Magor RFC. They are currently setting up under 8, under 10 and under 11 teams but would like to hear from anyone who wants to play rugby in Magor and Undy.
Visit www.undyrugby.co.uk and contact the academy by clicking on the response form in the menu section and leave your contact details.

Community Council unsuccessful in stopping new development at Kensington Park connecting to Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water sewage infrastructure-
Magor with Undy Community Council have actively been trying to stop the new development of 90 dwellings at Kensington Park connecting to the Dwr Cymcu/Welsh Water sewage infrastructure until such time the Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water undertake the upgrading and improvements to what is an antiquated and outdated system.
Bovis Homes applied to Monmouthshire County Council Planning Committee for the removal of clause 13 of their Planning Application. Removal of this would allow a phased connection of the 90 dwellings to the sewage infrastructure. Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water had promised to undertake an upgrade commencing Spring 2012 - this is now August 2012 - but will not have started, or finished by the time the 90 dwellings have been connected. Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water have on numerous occasions promised to upgrade the system, but so far they have not delivered on any of the dates given.
The Community Council is fully aware of the problems encountered by residents in Magor and Undy with regards to the overloading of the current sewage system provided by Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water.
The Community Council made a last minute written plea to the Monmouthshire County Council Planning Committee (click here). Residents and the local County Council Ward members also made representation and pleas.
Despite this, and several previous written and verbal representations, the Planning Committee at their meeting on the 14th February agreed to remove clause 13 of the planning agreement, which now allows Bovis Homes to connect to the sewage infrastructure before Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water have upgraded the system.
