The first Undy Farmers Market, organised by the Undy Church & Community Hall, was held in the Undy Church and Community Hall Saturday 25th June 2011.

The event was extremely successful with many hundreds attending. Each Farmer was delighted with the response of the local people, and the event gave the people in Undy, and the surrounding villages the opportunity to see what food is available locally.

The quality of all the food was very high, from vegetables picked that morning to cured meats from an Undy manufacturer that is being sold in Selfridges. Pies that have recently won the UK National Pie Award were sold out within the first hour and a half. Bread, piles of it, also sold very quickly.

Sausages and pork from Raglan again sold out so quickly. This farmer specialises in breeding pigs of various species and then producing all the meat and bacon. Chutneys and jams all made locally were snapped up. The sellers said that this was one of the best Farmers Markets they have attended. There was even someone selling environmentally safe cleaning products.

Some people who came along late morning were disappointed to find the cupboard bare! Next time, all the suppliers will be bringing along more produce and just as importantly different products. It is important that people visiting can see all types of locally produced food.

It just goes to show that “Made in Monmouthshire” sponsored by the Monmouthshire County Council is making a real impact in the supply of high quality food at a competitive cost. The Farmers market has the benefit of reducing transporting food from all parts of the UK and even internationally.

Several villagers said it was a super occasion where they were able to buy fresh local products, and many enjoyed tea and cakes making shopping a more civilised experience.

The market now also has local producers selling eggs, and beef products
