Monmouthshire County Council Warns of Digital Aerial Scam

Monmouthshire County Council Trading Standards officers are warning residents not to be taken in by aerial sales scams during the current switchover to digital TV.

Less reputable traders may be cold calling in the County claiming that an existing aerial will not receive a digital signal and urging them to pay for a replacement.  councillor Eric Saxon, Monmouthshire County Council's Cabinet Member for County Operations & Standards, said:

"There is no such thing as a digital aerial.  As long as it is in good condition, your current aerial should be able to receive the much stronger digital signal after the switchover".

Phil Glanville, Trading Standards Manager for Monmouthshire County Council added:  "A small percentage of households may need an aerial upgrade.  We advise them only to buy from reputable retailers and qualified installers, never from someone who turns up on the doorstep without an appointment."

The installation of a standard new roof aerial should cost no more than £80 - £10

 Children Crossing Railway
Children have been seen crossing the railway line behind the 3 field site (site of the proposed Community Hall) through a breach in the fencing, and also crossing the Mill Stream which is close by.   Both are extremely dangerous.  Matters are in hand, and underway to rectify and eliminate the issues, but if you have children, no matter what age, then please ensure they are made aware of the dangers involved in either of these activities.
